... mostly been getting my head together after a long Christmas! My sleeping patterns were wrecked so getting up in the morning for work became all but impossible. I spent a week as a zombie in a strange kind of Christmas Lag, not really able to do much at all. Every second was a minute every minute an hour and so on. Such a loooong week. January has to be the most miserable month of the year and they do so that the last Monday in January, in this case the 26th, is the most miserable day of the year. A day when its too cold, too little light, too long until the next good holiday, too many people’s new year resolutions have been broken and just not a good day. But not for me! To get over the Bad Day, Ditch and I are going to Centreparcs Eleveden for 5 days. It’ll be a great chance to chill, do next to nothing (though I’ll be keeping general work up via the wireless web) and generally have a good time. I am also on a fitness drive that has nothing to do with ‘resolutions’ but me carrying on my pre-Christmas fitness drive, before long I’ll have my energy back and be back with. So though I’m tired, I’m getting focused on the months and years ahead. I have certain goals which I SHALL achieve this year (with some help from others!) and things will come into fruition this year, this decade. Then the 2010’s will be a decade in which I KICK ASS! Starting in 2009. On a phsyical note, I also went for a very long walk around London Yesterday. From Islington down the regents canal, along the River Lea connection, down the River Lea, across the Limehouse Cut to the Limehouse Basin, then back all the way up Regents canal to Islington. It was a very nice, if Knackering day out! You can see some pics of the jaunt at our Flickr. As my head clears from the Christmas sleep pattern and my tiredness becomes clarity i realise now what has to be done and BY GOD I’m going to do it! Dawn aim/msn: dawn@scarletblonde.com
...I don’t think the random choice of 'this day' should be any reason to change everything. I like to make my changes when I think necessary and so have a better chance of them being a success! Still, if I WERE to make New Year’s resolutions, they would be to blog much more frequently, do a video blog once a fortnight, keep fit more and find more ways to keep in touch with people. So here I am starting the first of my non-resolutions. So what have we been up to? Well , our new album, Acerbic, is ready to master, cover all done and we are just ion the middle of sorting a few things out regarding the releasing of said album- more info as it comes! We are starting to work out how the hell to play the tracks as live as possible. One day, oh happy day, when we have enough money or a generous and talented synth player comes along (all submissions welcome ;-)), we'll get a 2nd synth player in so EVERYTHING is live but until then, we have to have some stuff on the backing. Next, we are on with booking a big old tour. I've mentioned it before and I'll keep letting you know. The first totally confirmed date is Saturday May 23rd where we'll be playing with the mighty Suzerain and another special guest to be announced nearer the time. It should be a crazy night! More dates will follow. So Ditch and I are working on the show and what to do. We have some good ideas. Before we’ve kind of crowbared track onto the stage and not really taken the time to put on a 'show'. But rest assured, no matter where you are in the UK, we'll be nearby at some point this year! Ditch and I are on a bit of a fitness trip- Ditch is shrinking, and yet growing (he’s doing a lot of strength training) by the day. I just want to be able to go nuts for an hour and a half and not die afterwards. The exercise is fun but the eating is hellish. I try not to deny anything, just eat slower and stop when I'm full but when those cravings get ya they get ya. Anyway, I'll round up now. This has been a very general blog. From now on they'll be daily and each day will be on a different topic. I hope to do them as follows: - Monday- This week, I have been mostly Tuesday- The latest sound I like to listen to. (All submissions/suggestions welcome) Wednesday- What the hell is going on in the world? Thursday- 42- Random Musings about life the universe and everything Friday- The music industry this week (by Ditch and from HyperDIY Media) Saturday- Scarlet Blonde News (no we haven’t forgotten) - Video blog every 2nd week. Sunday- Health Drive update- so you can keep us on our toes. So I’ll be kicking off on Monday (having a break tomorrow) letting you know how things are going on. I’ll add special SB news as and when it comes each day too, if theres any to tell you. Also, look out for us adding more personal photos and videos to flickr and YouTube from now on. If you want to add your won pics or vids to our Flickr feel free, just send them to march59instead@photos.flickr.com from your computer or phone. So speak again soon and if you want to get in touch, please do! So here I go with my first Kerchooz blog and I have to say this site really is a breath of fresh air, warming me up while the weather gets colder. So a little about me. I am Dawn Firth, Singer and Guitarist with Scarlet Blonde, a band I started about 3 years ago with my partner in life, crime and music, Richard Godbehere (Yes that is his real name and it has a really cool origin from before the middle ages, but I digress). I began playing guitar at about 8 years of age and singing just before and have been in one band of other ever since. I like to keep fit by strength training, distance running (about 20 miles a week), swimming and long walks (from 10-25 miles). I am petite at just a whisker under 5ft but strong for my size ;-) Okay, that’s enough about me, tell me about you, I wanna hear all about you, all of you, and I like to chat! There’s nothing I like more than a good chat so come on here and tell me all about you. What you've been up to, what you are doing, what you want to do, that sort of thing! For me, I'm just getting colder. I'm not a winter fan but at least Christmas brightens it all up! I'm going back to Sheffield to see my mum and Richard is cooking Christmas Dinner. He's a really good cook so I am looking forward to that one. I am also getting involved with a wonderful cause called 'whomadeyourpants' (www.whomadeyourpants.com) which is wicked so check it out! We are hoping to do fund raising tour in May so watch this space. In general I've been smiling over Christmas coming and ranting at London councillor’s hatred of live music. For those that don't know, they are building a new 'essential' (yeh, right) rail line from East to West London called cross rail (Obviously the District Line, Central Line, Overground Line, Jubilee Line and the 150 busses aren't enough) and in so doing they are blatantly targeting live venues. We have knew that the superb Astoria and Astoria 2 had been compulsory purchased for this pointless line, we knew they tried to demolish the Electric Ballroom and failed due to public protest, that the Intrepid Fox, classic metal pub for many a year, was given over to a housing developer as a compulsory purchase but now they have given the London Metro just 28 days note, at Christmas, in a recession, before taking the building in another compulsory purchase order. Between the Astoria and the Metro are sex shops, dodgy knock off clothes shops and nasty takeaways, none of which will be touched, but somehow, they have managed to cherry pick the 2 live music venues in the area and destroy successful businesses while doing so. It really makes me mad! Anyway, rant over but I feel I have to tell someone. We in musicians in London feel our scene is being slowly strangled a bunch of Wagner loving Tory music hating idiots, with Bird Brain Boris as crown prince, and there's nothing we can do about it. Oh well, maybe we should go back to illegal shows in derelict buildings ;-) Anyway, please say hello and keep in touch, I'll always be back in touch and look out for our 10 days of Christmas new album preview COMING SOON.
