Emrick, Voice of the N.H.L, Leaves Devils
Posted On 22/07/2011 02:06:05
The best local sports announcers are often as well known and as beloved as a team’s players. Think of Vin Scully and the Dodgers. Marv Albert and the Knicks. Mel Allen and the Yankees. Chick Hearn and the Lakers. Mike (Doc) Emrick became that distinctive figure for Devils fans for 21 seasons. Nike Air Max 24 7 But Emrick announced Thursday that he was reducing his workload as he nears 65, which meant cutting his ties to the Devils and the MSG Networks. He will remain the lead N.H.L. voice for NBC and Versus. “I’m not feeble and I’m not hobbling along,” he said by telephone. “I still have the energy. I still love the sport and love any excuse to be inside watching it. But it’s time to look ahead.” Emrick has pared his Devils duties by five games in each of the past three seasons. He called 59 games last season and nearly that many for NBC and Versus. “At one point in March, I did eight games in 10 days, all in different cities, and they were all spread out enough that I had to fly to each one of them,” he said. “By the eighth game, I probably wasn’t doing the job I was doing on the first of the eight.” Nike Ken Griffey Jr Shoes He grades himself after every game, on a scale of A to C; he lets others assess his rare lesser work. “I was grading myself honestly, and they weren’t straight A’s,” Emrick said, explaining that getting facts wrong or misidentifying players are among the errors that reduce his grades. The dual local and national schedules have been the work of “one and a half men,” he said. “Lord knows we don’t want to go to two and a half men.” Seemingly, Emrick was admitting to a lack of tiger blood. Ken Griffey Jr Shoes Announcers are often workhorses. In the season after the 2004-5 lockout, Emrick said he called 152 local, national and Winter Olympic games. That same season, his former partner John Davidson called 153. “I don’t know why we did that, but we were invited to do it and we like working,” Emrick said. Davidson left announcing after that season to run the St. Louis Blues. If Emrick ever had a desire to run the Devils, Lou Lamoriello, the president and general manager, blocked his path. During Emrick’s stints (from 1983-86 and 1993-2011) as the Devils’ announcer, the team became one of the best in the N.H.L. and won three Stanley Cup championships. Through those decades, he became hockey’s pre-eminent announcer, mixing his appreciation for English, an ability to maintain his composure during the fastest of game sequences and his ability to pronounce the most difficult-to-pronounce names. English Amateur Secures Share of Lead With a 65
Posted On 15/07/2011 01:55:04
The arc of European Tour dominance in major championship golf, which began at the 2010 United States Open with the surprise victory of Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell, did not merely continue Nike Air Yeezy Thursday in the first round of the British Open at Royal St. George’s. It also got younger. At the end of a first round that began gray and windblown and ended sunny and calm, hours after Thomas Bjorn of Denmark had shot a five-under-par 65 to top a leader board loaded with Europeans, the 20-year-old English amateur Tom Lewis matched Bjorn’s 65 and became the first amateur to gain a share of the British Open lead since Sir Michael Bonallack in 1968 at Troon. The floodgates Cheap Red Wing Shoes have been flung wide open. It may be way too early for 22-year-old Rory McIlroy to be hearing the footsteps of younger players, but for one day, as the poised and polished Lewis discussed his round in the media center, McIlroy may have been feeling a little less sanguine about his routine round of one-over-par 71. It was a startling show by Lewis, who was playing with Tom Watson, the man his father named him after. It also was an appropriate bookend to a day that first belonged to Bjorn, 40, who only got into the field on Monday as the sixth alternate after Vijay Singh withdrew. Bjorn and Lewis, Red Wing Boots two decades apart in age, have each built part of their core golf résumé at Royal St. George’s, where Bjorn nearly won the 2003 Open only to collapse down the stretch, and where Lewis won the 2009 English Boys Amateur. A fair-haired youngster whose dyslexia hastened his decision to quit school at 16 to pursue golf, Lewis showed that he made a sound decision. He birdied five holes in a row — the 13th through the 17th — and finished with a solid par at the difficult 18th to tie Bjorn for the lead and for the lowest first-round score in an Open at Royal St. George’s since Cristy O’Connor Jr. opened with a 64 in 1985. Lewis was asked if he could have imagined shooting 65, or being tied for the lead, at the beginning of the tournament. “Obviously it’s one day,” Lewis said. “I’m going to have to play just as well as I did today tomorrow. I’m sure I’m not going to shoot four 65s.” Then, with a smile lifting the corners of his mouth, he added, with great timing, “And if I did, I will be winning.” Ken Griffey Jr Shoes Cheap Ken Griffey Jr Shoes Ken Griffey Jr Shoes 2011 Air Kukini

Prosecutors, Clemens' team trade barbs in U.S. trial
Posted On 14/07/2011 01:19:05
Prosecutors gave their opening statement in U.S. District court against Clemens as they seek to prove he lied to Cheap Air Max the U.S. Congress in 2008 when he told lawmakers he never took anabolic steroids or human growth hormone from 1998 to 2001. Clemens has repeatedly denied taking the performance enhancing drugs or lying to lawmakers, telling them that his personal trainer and onetime friend, Brian McNamee, had injected him with shots of vitamin B12 and the anesthetic lidocaine instead. "We will prove that Mr. Clemens ... used both anabolic steroids and human growth hormones," U.S. prosecutor Steven Durham told the jury, just blocks from the U.S. Congress where the pitching legend gave his disputed testimony. "Mr. McNamee saved needles and cotton balls that he used to inject Mr. Clemens -- he never completely trusted this man." Nike Air Max 24 7 The evidence McNamee saved was sent by prosecutors to private laboratories which tested them and found evidence consistent with Clemens' DNA on the needles and his actual DNA on the bloodied cotton balls, Durham said. "They found absolutely no B12 and they found absolutely no lidocaine," Durham said. Clemens' lead defense lawyer Rusty Hardin tried to paint a much different picture, arguing that the pitching star's former trainer made everything up about the steroids use by Clemens and had manufactured Nike Ken Griffey Jr Shoes the evidence the prosecution was seizing on as proof Clemens took the performance-enhancing drugs. "They have no corroborating evidence of McNamee," Hardin said, adding that despite more than 100 investigators criss-crossing the country, "they still didn't have anything to connect him to steroids except Brian McNamee." Clemens, 48, pitched for four teams during his 24-year career in baseball, including the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros. He was one of only four pitchers to strike out more than 4,000 batters. He was a seven-time winner of the Cy Young Award annually honoring the best pitcher in each league. Hardin argued that Clemens won the Cy Young Award both before the period he was accused of taking the drugs, and more importantly in the years afterward. "Roger Clemens' only crime was having the poor judgment to stay connected with Brian McNamee," said Hardin. Clemens sat in a charcoal colored suit quietly taking in the proceedings in the windowless courtroom. After an initial crush in the courtroom, the room was half full as witnesses were called. Players, owners set to meet as sides set July 21 goal to reach deal
Posted On 13/07/2011 01:59:12
Legal teams and staff for NFL players and owners met for a second straight day at a Manhattan law firm on Tuesday, setting the stage for the arrival of the principals in the league's labor dispute on Nike Air Max 24 7 Wednesday. Sessions the first two days of this week were productive, as the parties worked to close out language for necessary elements of a potential deal to end the lockout, which reached the four-month mark on Tuesday. There were about a dozen participants in the over nine-hour sessions on Tuesday, including NFL outside counsel Bob Batterman and NFL Players Association outside counsel Jeffrey Kessler. The league has set a goal of July 21 to have a completed deal to present to the larger group at an owners meeting in Atlanta. But the owners and players still have work to do in solving significant issues such as the rookie salary system and funding for retirees' benefits. Representing the NFL will be commissioner Roger Goodell, Panthers owner and labor committee chair Jerry Richardson, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Nike Air Yeezy Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, Giants owner John Mara, and Steelers president Art Rooney II. The players group will include NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith, Colts center Jeff Saturday, Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth, retiree Sean Morey and others figures who've been vital to the process. All of the above have been involved in the process since pre-lockout negotiations in Washington. The parties have been ordered to meet at U.S. Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan's chambers next Tuesday, with counsel and figures carrying "full settlement authority" in attendance. The hope is that, by then, an agreement in principle will have been reached and the process of settling the outstanding Cheap Ken Griffey Jr Shoes litigation can be worked on. To that end, the plaintiffs in the Brady et al v. the National Football League et al case took part in a conference call on Tuesday afternoon. It is worth noting that last week's meetings between players and owners did not end well, and that there is still plenty of ground to cover. The players and owners had a tough day of negotiations last Thursday, followed by a Friday in which almost no real progress was made. At the heart of the stalemate was the rookie wage issue, but that isn't the Ken Griffey Jr Shoes 2011 only outstanding problem to be solved. Some internal deadlines have been set for July 15, this Friday, as the date to have an agreement in order to save the preseason in its natural form. The Rams and Bears are scheduled to open their training camps at the end of next week, though that seems unrealistic at this point. The Hall of Fame Game between St. Louis and Chicago, however, has not yet been cancelled. That game, the first on the preseason ledger, is scheduled for Aug. 7. A primary motivator in this set of talks has been the potential loss of preseason revenue, and it would start with the Rams-Bears game. Red Wing Shoes Nike Air Max Air Max 2011 Cheap Air Max

NFL labor dispute could be settled in Atlanta
Posted On 12/07/2011 01:41:09
The NFL and NFLPA have entered a pivotal period in their $9 billion labor dispute that, with a settlement, could come to an end at a hotel near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport next week. Cheap Ken Griffey Jr Shoes If the owners and players are going to reach an agreement to allow for a full season, they must complete the deal this week. Both sides could share the results with chief magistrate Arthur J. Boylan, the court-appointed mediator, with whom they are scheduled to meet next Tuesday in Minneapolis. In May, the NFL announced they would hold a special league meeting on July 21 in Atlanta. ESPN, citing sources familiar with the state of negotiations, reported Monday that the two sides are targeting the Atlanta meeting to ratify the prospective collective bargaining agreement. The cable TV Ken Griffey Jr Shoes 2011 network quoted one owner as saying there’s “no reason to believe it won’t get done.” An affirmative vote from 24 of the 32 owners would be required to approve any deal. The NFL has not missed any games since the 1987 labor dispute. The owners locked out the players on March 11, and the players’ union decertified and filed an antitrust lawsuit. The owners scored a major victory and gained additional negotiating leverage when the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis ruled last week that a U.S. District Court could not Air Kukini stop the league from locking out players. The decision vacated an April 25 decision by the lower court that temporarily lifted the lockout because players were determined to have suffered irreparable harm. The owners and players issued a joint statement last Friday, which said they mutually believe the dispute must be resolved through negotiation. “We are committed to our current discussions and reaching a fair agreement that will benefit all parties for years to come, and allow for a full 2011 season,” the release said. Red Wing Shoes The owners held a special meeting in Atlanta last year in August. At that meeting, the owners approved the sale of the St. Louis Rams, discussed a possible move to an 18-game schedule and heard a report from the negotiating committee on the progress of labor talks. “Hopefully, they can get it done,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said. “Like I’ve said all along, I’ve got good faith in both sides that we’ll come to an agreement.” If a deal is reached and ratified on this timeline, most teams would report to training camp on time. However, the Pro Football Hall of Fame game, the opener for the exhibition season and set for Aug. 7, could be in jeopardy. Nike Air Max Air Max 2011 Cheap Air Max Nike Air Max 24 7

Mike Neff raced to his fourth Funny Car victory of the season at the O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals on Sunday. Ken Griffey Jr Shoes 2011 With the win, Neff gave Ford its milestone 200th NHRA Funny Car victory as he powered his Ford Mustang to a performance of 4.246 seconds at 293.22 mph to defeat Jeff Arend, who posted a 5.168 at 186.54 in his Funny Car. "The heat is what was hard for everyone out there today," Neff said. "It was a challenge. With the conditions it was one of those races where you have to get your car down the racetrack if you want to win. It's a tribute to our Ford Mustang body. It's a great car and we have great preparation by the team because the car is so consistent right now." Nike Free RESULTS: O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals Del Worsham (Top Fuel), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and LE Tonglet (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event. Worsham raced to his fifth victory of the season in Top Fuel, powering his dragster past David Grubnic in the final round. A three-time Funny Car winner here, Worsham joined Gary Scelzi as the only drivers to win in both nitro categories at Route 66 Raceway when he posted a 3.978 at 299.40 to hold off Grubnic's machine, which trailed with a 4.055 at 294.50. Nike Air Presto Anderson earned his second victory of the season and 67th of his career, denying Erica Enders her first win in her fourth career final round. Anderson took his first Route 66 Raceway victory with a holeshot victory as he drove his Pontiac GXP to a 6.670 at 207.18 to cross the finish line in front of Enders, who had a quicker, but losing, 6.659 at 206.89 in a Chevy Cobalt. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Tonglet rebounded from a DNQ at the previous event to claim his second victory of the season. He pulled away from Chip Ellis in the final with a 7.047 at 188.46 on a Suzuki. Fire-Galaxy Preview
Posted On 09/07/2011 00:53:40
The Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Chicago Fire in April despite the absences of Landon Donovan and David Beckham. The Galaxy are hoping both stars will be on the Home Depot Center field for the rematch Saturday night, Nike Air Yeezy though goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts will remain sidelined as his team tries to extend an 11-game unbeaten run. Donovan was out with an inflamed right knee and Beckham was serving a suspension when the Galaxy won 2-1 at Chicago on April 17. Donovan, whose eight goals are tied for second in MLS, admittedly wasn't sharp when he returned Monday in a scoreless draw with Seattle after missing four games because of the Gold Cup. Beckham, whose seven assists are tied for second most in the league, has a stress fracture in his spine but played 21 minutes, his first action in three games. Cheap Red Wing Shoes Although he's suffering from fatigue, Donovan is expected to play Saturday while Beckham is listed as questionable. "We're probably better with them," coach Bruce Arena told the team's website. "It's not got to be something that happens overnight were we get them both back and we get them playing 90 minutes together." Los Angeles has an MLS-best 36 points despite enduring a number of key absences this season. The club is now Red Wing Boots dealing with another one, as Ricketts is out of the lineup for three to five weeks. The 2010 MLS goalkeeper of the year had surgery for a fractured left forearm sustained June 25. In Ricketts' place, the Galaxy (9-2-9) got an admirable effort from Brian Perk in his league debut Monday as he stopped an early penalty kick. Perk might be on the sidelines for this game, though, with Josh Saunders eligible to return from a red-card suspension. Whoever is in goal will try to help the Galaxy end the Fire's eight-game unbeaten streak, their longest since a 5-0-6 start to the 2009 season. Chicago (2-4-12), though, Red Wing Work Shoes has one win in that stretch and recorded its second straight 1-all draw last Saturday. Dominic Oduro scored in the 26th minute against Chivas USA, but the Fire allowed the equalizer just after halftime. "We have to stay focused for 90 minutes," defender Cory Gibbs said. "We had lapses against Chivas. If we do that against a team like the Galaxy, we'll lose." The Fire's defeat to Los Angeles in April was their third straight. They've gone 1-1-11 since. Chicago has given up three goals in seven games since Frank Klopas took over as interim coach for the fired Carlos de los Cobos. Donovan scored twice in Los Angeles' last home game against the Fire on Aug. 1, but Chicago had built a 3-0 lead in the first 19 minutes and hung on for the 3-2 victory. Los Angeles hasn't gone unbeaten in 12 straight since a 10-0-2 start to last season. Ken Griffey Jr Shoes Cheap Ken Griffey Jr Shoes Ken Griffey Jr Shoes 2011 Air Kukini

There is some logic to why Deron Williams would sign with Besiktas Cola Turka to play next season. For one, it puts some pressure on the NBA owners in the Collective Bargaining talks (although not that much). Williams is coming off wrist injuries at the end of last season and this would let him get his playing touch back (for Nets fans, that’s not bad). And he makes a little scratch. Nike Air Max But there are some reasons this doesn’t make sense, especially if you like money. According to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski Williams will get paid $200,000 per month (plus have his housing covered, a driver, security guard and personal assistant). You are saying not bad, but it is by NBA terms. If he plays a full season over there he could make one-tenth of his NBA salary — and if he gets injured he risks losing all $34 million on his current deal (if injured the Nets can void his contract). Plus he could miss out or reduce the $70 million or more he will make on his next contract. Air Max 2011 Would you risk $100 million just to play for a few hundred thousand in Turkey for a couple months? You think his new agent is recommending this? Lots of places are reporting that agents are skeptical about this Williams deal. CBSSports.com’s Ken Berger has a source that probably said it best. “The guys I work with in Turkey say there’s no chance this is happening,” the agent said…. “He’s going to risk that to make a few million dollars?” the agent said. “What if he gets hurt?” Williams may or may not go (he doesn’t have to report until Sept. 1, the first game is Sept. 27, right about when a del needs to be struck to salvage the full NBA season). But money is the reason you are not going to see a river of top-flight NBA guys heading overseas — they have too much money in their deals to risk going overseas. Cheap Air Max What’s more, the top-flight European teams are not going to sign a player — even an elite player — for less than a guaranteed full season. Top teams are not going to rent a player, they don’t need to. Lesser teams can’t afford to bring over stars. As the fantasitc Mark Deeks (@ShamSports) points out, Besiktas is an exception — it is a team with deep pockets but one that rarely spends any of that money. It did last season on Allen Iverson, it is willing to do so for D-Will. But teams like FC Barcelona or CSKA Moscow will not just rent NBA players for a season. Borderline NBA players will still head overseas, it might even be smart for them to ensure a payday. But for stars it makes less sense. And not a lot of people are going to follow Williams. Canadian doctor Anthony Galea pleads guilty to smuggling HGH

Red Wing Boots Federal authorities may learn of many more prominent athletes who came under his care now that the Canadian doctor has pleaded guilty in federal court in Buffalo, N.Y., to bringing unapproved drugs into the United States, including human growth hormone. As part of his plea deal, Galea agreed to cooperate with investigators and reveal the identities and treatments of his patients, the Associated Press reports. Pro athletes linked to Galea have repeatedly maintained he did not give them any performance-enhancing drugs, even though he's an outspoken advocate of HGH and has said he takes it himself. Red Wing Work Shoes Galea is also known for treating athletes with platelet-rich plasma, an approved procedure that involves injecting the patient's own blood into an injury after spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the healing agents. Galea was indicted by a grand jury in October on charges that he smuggled HGH and other substances into the U.S. and lied about it to border agents. He was accused of treating 20 pro athletes without a U.S. license between October 2007 and September 2009. Galea, who is also facing charges in Canada, may get a sentence of 12-18 months in jail.
