So here I go with my first Kerchooz blog and I have to say this site really is a breath of fresh air, warming me up while the weather gets colder. So a little about me.
I am Dawn Firth, Singer and Guitarist with Scarlet Blonde, a band I started about 3 years ago with my partner in life, crime and music, Richard Godbehere (Yes that is his real name and it has a really cool origin from before the middle ages, but I digress). I began playing guitar at about 8 years of age and singing just before and have been in one band of other ever since. I like to keep fit by strength training, distance running (about 20 miles a week), swimming and long walks (from 10-25 miles). I am petite at just a whisker under 5ft but strong for my size ;-)
Okay, that’s enough about me, tell me about you, I wanna hear all about you, all of you, and I like to chat! There’s nothing I like more than a good chat so come on here and tell me all about you. What you've been up to, what you are doing, what you want to do, that sort of thing!
For me, I'm just getting colder. I'm not a winter fan but at least Christmas brightens it all up! I'm going back to Sheffield to see my mum and Richard is cooking Christmas Dinner. He's a really good cook so I am looking forward to that one. I am also getting involved with a wonderful cause called 'whomadeyourpants' (www.whomadeyourpants.com) which is wicked so check it out! We are hoping to do fund raising tour in May so watch this space.
In general I've been smiling over Christmas coming and ranting at London councillor’s hatred of live music. For those that don't know, they are building a new 'essential' (yeh, right) rail line from East to West London called cross rail (Obviously the District Line, Central Line, Overground Line, Jubilee Line and the 150 busses aren't enough) and in so doing they are blatantly targeting live venues. We have knew that the superb Astoria and Astoria 2 had been compulsory purchased for this pointless line, we knew they tried to demolish the Electric Ballroom and failed due to public protest, that the Intrepid Fox, classic metal pub for many a year, was given over to a housing developer as a compulsory purchase but now they have given the London Metro just 28 days note, at Christmas, in a recession, before taking the building in another compulsory purchase order. Between the Astoria and the Metro are sex shops, dodgy knock off clothes shops and nasty takeaways, none of which will be touched, but somehow, they have managed to cherry pick the 2 live music venues in the area and destroy successful businesses while doing so. It really makes me mad!
Anyway, rant over but I feel I have to tell someone. We in musicians in London feel our scene is being slowly strangled a bunch of Wagner loving Tory music hating idiots, with Bird Brain Boris as crown prince, and there's nothing we can do about it.
Oh well, maybe we should go back to illegal shows in derelict buildings ;-)
Anyway, please say hello and keep in touch, I'll always be back in touch and look out for our 10 days of Christmas new album preview COMING SOON.
Love to all,
Dawny
